Over 100 years ago, before the Boat House was a grill and bar, it originally started out as a business that constructed boats where people would come to socialize. It was 1 of 7 boathouses on Clear Lake in Waseca, and it used to run 38-foot ferries back and forth to Maplewood for 15 cents round-trip, along with fishing excursions and day-trips. Over the years it turned into Thompsons Boathouse, a local gathering spot on the lake serving food and drinks.
